Navigating Medicare: Your Guide to Coverage

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals aged 65 and older, certain individuals with disabilities, and those with permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant (End-Stage Renal Disease).

Understanding Medicare Plans:

  • Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health services. Medicare covers 80% of these costs.

  • Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services, with Medicare covering 80% of the costs.

  • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans) Offered by private insurers that contract with Medicare, these plans provide Part A and B benefits, often with co-pays and additional perks like prescription drug coverage. If enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan, services are covered through the plan rather than Original Medicare.

  • Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage) Adds prescription drug coverage to Original Medicare. These plans are available through Medicare-approved private insurers.

  • Medicare Supplement (Medigap Plans) Sold by private companies to help cover out-of-pocket costs not included in Original Medicare. Unlike Medicare Advantage Plans, Medigap policies strictly supplement Original Medicare rather than rep
